For thousands of years, art has been the primary form of human expression and entertainment. The ability to understand and analyze art is a revered skill set to have in this day and age. So how do you, as a parent, get your child ready to learn more about the arts? The answer is simple: exposure.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but how exactly we go about finding those words is up to us. Each person’s imagination can create personalized realities about everything. This is why it has become increasingly important to promote your child’s imagination through art. By exposing your child to art, you will be providing them with opportunities to analyze and understand the world on their own. The more often your child is exposed to art, the better they will adapt to evaluate images. This skill will also go beyond just the study of art. The imagination and ability to think critically will eventually help your child excel in reading, writing, math, and other school work.
Parents can expose their child to art in many ways. Art museums and gardens are always a great way to acquaint your child with some of the finest art in the world. Finding special events, or exhibits can help you plan a memorable trip with you and your child. Little Fun Club also likes to provide your child with picture books and interactive games to help your child’s imagination flourish.
Recently, we included Chris Raschka’s New York Times Bestselling and New York Times Best Illustrated Book A Ball for Daisy in a number of monthly boxes. This wordless picture book provides your child with beautiful illustrations that allow them to create their own unique story. Though Daisy’s story is relatable to any child with a favorite toy, the space for your child to imagine the details of Daisy’s struggle is provided where the text has been left out.
We have also begun including the picture book The Treasure Bath by Dan Anderson. The book links bath time with adventure and emotionality. The wonderful illustrations allow your child to create a story of their own based on the images given by the book.
I love what you guys do! I recently bought one of the Olivia book series and it was talking about a trip to the museum with two illustration of actual paintings in the book. My daughter loved the book and the paintings as well.
Leah, we love that book as well and have shipped it to some of our subscribers several months ago. The book is featuring Degas’s ballerina painting as well as Jackson Pollock’s “Autumn Rhythm #30”. It’s a very good story with nice illustrations.
