When we were starting Little Fun Club, we had a very simple idea and a belief that a child who receives a box of books regularly will get accustomed to books and reading. We can discuss for hours how beneficial reading is for a child and how that one activity helps them to be more accomplished adults later in life.
We knew how to do the tech part of the enterprise. How to create the website, to make sure it is simple and that it does exactly what we have in mind. We also knew, what content we want to offer to our subscribers. Being avid readers and parents ourselves, we are familiar with the spark that lights up in the eyes of a child when the book that you’re reading to them is interesting and exciting. So all we had to do is get these books into our boxes. Problem solved.
We started by putting together lists, consulting with different industry experts, and getting in touch with publishers. It was a bumpy ride at first getting publishers to work with us. We are now partners with the leading publishing companies, like Simon & Schuster, Harper Collins, DK, etc.
For over 3 years, we have been following the events at the annual BookExpo America (BEA) wondering if it would be beneficial to our subscribers if we participated in this huge function. BEA is the leading book and author event for the North American publishing industry. It’s the best place to discover new titles and authors, conduct business and network, and learn the latest trends. It is the largest gathering of booksellers, librarians, retailers, publishers, rights, licensing, and book industry professionals in North America.
Cut to the present, we have been making some pretty big strategic moves for the future of Little Fun Club. You recently heard us talk about moving into a much larger office near a post office that suits our mailing needs so much better – imagine your child going from little league to a state championship. As we continue to expand and delve into new ventures, we feel it is the right time to expand our partnerships to get our hands on even better content for our subscribers.
All that to say, we are going to the Book Expo America 2016 in Chicago this year!
It is both exciting and scary all at once, but you will be with us all the way. We will be documenting everything via our Facebook page, Blog, and Instagram feed. We are as nervously excited as Bilbo Baggins before his epic journey away from the comfort of his home! We can’t wait to see all the new books and titles we will get to acquire for you!
Yay!!! So happy to see such a wonderful endeavor grow. We started our granddaughter off with a subscription for her 3rd birthday, she is now almost 4 1/2 and continues to look forward to her books every month and they ARE growing with her….. we get double bang for our bucks too because her 2 year old sis is reaping the benefits as well. We don’t live close by so it is a special treat when we visit for her to show off all the new books she’s gotten since we were last there and for us to read them with her, and sissy too. This is money well spent and I have it factored into our budget for forever so thank you and keep’em coming.
